Head of School
The Rector is the Spiritual Head of the School and the Christ Church Vestry has final authority over all fiscal and financial matters. The Head of School (HOS) oversees the daily operation of Christ Church Academy. The HOS reports directly to the Rector. The Rector, Vestry HOS, and Advisory Board work together to make budgets, policies, and establish best practices.
The Christ Church Academy Head of School (HOS) carries out the duties and responsibilities to the glory of God and to the benefit of the educational program. The HOS is responsible to the Christ Church Rector and the Church Vestry for all academic, personnel, business, and developmental matters of the school in line with the stated mission, vision, philosophies, and goals. The HOS will faithfully promote the school’s distinctly Christian and Anglican philosophy of education. The HOS works closely with the School’s Board of Advisors; the HOS and the Board of Advisors (BOA) will make recommendations to the Rector and Vestry as to the budget, hiring, staff retention, and salaries, who have final authority on these matters.
The HOS shall run the school’s educational operations, be responsible to administer the budget as approved by the Rector and Vestry, and manage staff, student, and community relations. The Rector is the spiritual head of both the church and the school, though the HOS shall possess a mature Christian faith, be a member in good standing of Christ Church—Vero Beach, and exhibit a Christ-like model of behavior for the School’s faculty, staff, students, and parents.

Requirements
Will oversee and manage all operations of the school and assist the BOA, the Rector, and the Vestry in developing workable and effective policies and for implementing them.
The HOS will:
1. Administer the school while conforming to BOA and Vestry policy and in accordance with the school’s mission and vision.
2. Ensure the school follows appropriate laws provided these laws do not violate the Scripture upon which the school is founded.
3. Provide appropriate safety measures for the campus.
4. Lead the implementation of the Strategic Plan as advised by the BOA and approved by the Rector.
General Administration
5. Welcome feedback and respond to Rector, BOA and Vestry direction with an appropriate level of accountability.
6. Operate as an ex-officio member of the BOA and provide timely school updates for board meetings. Attend all board meetings—and Vestry meetings as necessary—and participate in deliberations of the BOA.
7. Lead the accreditation process.
Personnel Administration
The HOS sets an example for spiritual and personal growth and directs professional growth and leadership of the school’s faculty and staff. The HOS works to maximize employee satisfaction and will:
1. Plan and oversee school-wide faculty meetings and retreats, and conduct other meetings as necessary.
2. Direct and approve teacher training, continuing education, mentoring, and professional development.
3. Manage evaluation of teachers via classroom visitation, lesson observation, curriculum content, and classroom management.
4. Interview prospective personnel and make hiring recommendations to the Rector.
5. Recommend potential BOA candidates.
6. Make recommendations to the Rector regarding hiring, continuance employment, and re-issuance of teacher contracts. When necessary, HOS must initiate disciplinary procedures involving teachers and staff.
7. Resolve and/or mediate problems between parents and teachers, teachers and students, or staff members by applying biblical principles of problem-solving.
8. Maintain and keep current all personnel files and records for the school, including documentation of disciplinary action. This should be done in conjunction with appropriate administrative and
support staff.
9. Create policies and procedures for teachers and staff that are fair, legal, and within the mission of the school.
Curriculum and Instruction
The HOS ultimately leads in developing, achieving, and maintaining the strongest possible educational programs and services to promote the mission and vision of the school. The HOS will:
1. Thoroughly understand the Christian model of teaching as articulated in the School’s mission, vision, and educational philosophy.
2. Manage curriculum development.
3. Oversee scheduling of teachers.
4. Approve all extracurricular activities with appropriate staff.
Student Body
The HOS supervises the welfare of the student body, the students’ spiritual and academic growth, and the quality of the school’s curriculum and instruction. The HOS will:
1. Create policies for students that are fair, legal and within the mission of the school..
2. Administer proper student disciplinary measures when necessary with appropriate staff.
3. Serve as an example to students by engaging and building rapport.
Parents
The HOS consistently reinforces CCA’s mission and vision, and culture in order to strengthen parents’ understanding of and commitment to the School. The HOS will:
1. Work collaboratively with parents in the instruction of their children.
2. Maintain an open-door policy to ensure parents feel welcome to discuss ideas and concerns.
3. Communicate in a timely manner regarding significant events, policy changes, curricular issues/changes as directed by school policy.
Fiscal Administration
The HOS creates and manages procedures and practices to ensure an efficient and effective business operation. The HOS works with the church’s Administrator and BOA on the development of the annual budget, with approval and implementation by the Rector and Vestry. The Rector makes all final hiring decisions. The Vestry makes all final financial decisions, as well as overseeing the maintenance and
upkeep of all properties.
The HOS will:
1. Prepare annual budget recommendations with the BOA to go before the Rector and the Vestry for approval.
2. Work with Administrator to closely monitor departmental budgets once approved in the annual budget.
3. Provide the BOA with monthly financial reports.
4. Working with BOA, manage the annual budget ensuring that financial resources are used to advance the mission.
Development
The HOS has the main responsibility for promoting and maintaining positive public relations with the school families, business partners, and the community at large. The HOS oversees programs for student recruitment, publicity, fund raising, database management, and alumni relations.
The HOS will:
1. Ensure regular and timely communication to all audiences.
2. Manage public relations efforts for the school, fundraising efforts and promotional programs.
3. Supervise planning and coordination of all special events for the school managed through the parent-volunteers and other school groups.
4. Make direct appeals for the annual fund of the school, primarily to major donors.
5. Create and oversee development of a core donor program and ensure its expansion and optimization with Vestry direction.
6. Oversee Admissions efforts in development and implementation of appropriate admission policies and procedures.
7. Always be mindful of increasing enrollment with mission-fit families.
Profile of the CCA Head of School
Recognizing that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and such wisdom is best cultivated in students’ lives from the living examples of their leaders, CCA desires that the HOS understands the need to live one’s life under the authority of the Scripture and does so with eagerness in joyful submission to God. The HOS will be a Christian committed to living his/her faith in the Anglican way; in keeping with the Book of Common Prayer and the doctrine of the Anglican Church in North America. We expect the HOS to be skillful in using and modeling the tools of learning: to think critically, listen carefully with discernment and understanding, reason persuasively, and articulate precisely. We ask that our teachers,
led by the example of the HOS, fill their classrooms with the educational virtues of Truth, Goodness, and Beauty in order to demonstrate those through the spiritual virtues of Faith, Hope, and Love. We endeavor for our HOS and faculty to exemplify the fruit of the Spirit and to be spiritually gracious, desiring to grow
in understanding while fully realizing the limitations and foolishness of the wisdom of this world. Our HOS and teachers are those who will not conform to the pattern of this world, but rather are being transformed into the likeness of Jesus Christ: serving sacrificially, having a heart for the lost, and boldly bringing the message of Christ’s salvation to a broken world.
